What controls the things that happen in my life?
Have you ever noticed that those who think they are sick seem to get sick a lot. Or maybe those who think they can lift 600 lbs do. The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. So, we see here that what is in your thoughts matters and what you think you will be!
Romans 8:5-10 says, 5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness.
WOW that is a lot to process... If we think like the flesh (world) and think of the desires of the body(lust) then we will die and go to hell. If we think with the Spirit then we deny the desires of the flesh and live to please God. If you are saved and live for God then He has supplied the Holy Spirit to help guide us to think, say and do good things. Another thing to note here is that it simply states that you either are serving God or you are not. You cannot serve God and live like the world as the scripture says, "the realm of the flesh cannot please God." and then "if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ." This is a bold and straight forward scripture that can only be taken one way... If you have Christ in you then you will live for Christ and if not you are not of Christ period.
Matthew 12:33-35 says. 33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. 34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.
Here Jesus tells us again that only good produce good and bad produce bad. It seems to be very important that what we think guides what we do and what we do shows who we are. God wants us to do good things to produce good fruit not to win our salvation (that was paid by Jesus) but so it shows His glorious nature. To help us with this He gives us the Bible and the Holy Spirit to help guide us.
With great joy we should know that thanks to Jesus giving his life for our sins we have the wonderful gift of eternal life. Knowing now that nothing on this earth is about us we can focus on our purpose in life.....Our purpose is to live in a manner that reflects God to the world by showing His great love for the world. Once we have a understanding of our purpose and an appreciation for the amazing gift of salvation, we can live for God without compromise to the world. Our only purpose is to live in a manner that HONORS God.... So we have to go through our daily life asking, "Is this honoring God? If God was standing here with me would I be doing what I am doing? Would I be thinking what I am thinking? Would I be wearing what I am wearing? " WOW am I pleasing God? Now we get it, its about God, not us. Once the focus is put in the correct place we will not only get good things but our nature will change and things we didn't think of as good are all of a sudden great things. Pray, Read and listen to the Holy Spirit and let God change your perspective.... If you do you will have a life with Joy Overflowing!
